More information discovered about Army recruiter who went viral for surprising her friend

More information about the soldier who posted a video of her gifting her fellow soldier a pair of shorts has been discovered.

Army Sergeant Phommavong posted the video to her TikTok account and received over 1.8 million views but deleted the video after The Salty Soldier wrote about it.

In the video, Sergeant Phommavong surprised her friend, an Army corporal, with a pair of shorts with “I love Black guys,” on them.

Since the deletion of the video, The Salty Soldier was able to discover more information about Sergeant Phommavong and her service in the Army National Guard.

She is currently a full-time National Guard soldier and joined the Army just over seven years ago as a 74D, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Specialist.

Last year she was working as a recruiter but admits she still does marketing for National Guard recruiting.

In 2019, the Army announced it was selecting 100 officers to become “Army Enterprise Marketing and Behavioral Economics Officers (FA 58)” over a period of five to six years.

“The creation of FA 58 [Army marketing] allows the service to acquire, develop, employ, and retain the marketing talent needed to deliver a cutting-edge marketing capability commensurate with one of the nation’s largest brands — the U.S. Army,” said Dr. E. Casey Wardynski, assistant secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs said at the time.

According to the Army, Army Marketing manages the “Army’s brand towards the American
public, media outlets, Soldiers, veterans, influencers, and prospects.”

When Sergeant Phommavong said she was working for Army Marketing, she could have been implying she works under an Enterprise Marketing and Behavioral Economics Officer, who specializes in “Content Delivery” or “Content Delivery” to use her social media to reach potential recruits on behalf of the Army.

Army Enterprise Marketing and Behavioral Economics Officers (FA58s) are required to
initially specialize within a stage of the Army Marketing Cycle.
