44-year-old Army specialist arrested for murder

A U.S. Army National Guard soldier has been arrested for murder after police responded to a call for help from a man who had been stabbed in Upstate New York.

On Sept. 5, around 8:30 p.m., the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a gas station in Clay -just north of Syracuse- to aid a man who had been stabbed numerous times.

When deputies arrived at the Citgo gas station, they found 50-year-old Scott Lamica with severe stab wounds.

They attempted life-saving measures but Lamica did not survive after being transported to Upstate University Hospital.

According to Syracuse.com, Lamica was stabbed in his truck by Army National Guard Specialist Richard Losee while driving in their mobile home community.

After being stabbed, Lamica lost control of his truck and hit a tree while Losee was on top of his truck.

The crash threw Losee to the ground and Lamica drove to a Citgo gas station to ask for help, according to WSYR-TV.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the families,” the gas station’s management said in a statement.

“The incident occurred at a nearby residence and the victim drove himself to the gas station where employees assisted the best they could until medical personnel arrived. We are thankful that our employees are safe and there’s no further threat to our community. We are back fully open to the public.”

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office did not release any possible motives for the stabbing but records show Losee was released from jail the day before after a domestic violence incident.

Losee is a specialist in the Army National Guard and enlisted in 2006, according to Eric Durr, public affairs director for the New York National Guard. He is assigned to the forward support company of the 204th Engineer Battalion in Binghamton.

“The 204th Engineer Battalion is one of two engineer battalions in the 10,300 member New York Army National Guard,” according to the Army in 2020. “The battalion has elements across the state ranging from Kingston and the Camp Smith Training Site in the Hudson Valley to Buffalo.”

According to CNY Central, Losee was recently demoted from sergeant to the rank of specialist.

He has been charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.

He is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center until his arraignment.
