A retired U.S. Army colonel was not expecting what was going to happen to him when he went to purchase a dump trailer listed on FB marketplace on Sunday.

When he arrived to make the purchase, 64-year-old Ret. Col. Glenn Gildon was shot three times by a man who came to the U$A in a manner that is not considered to be lawful by any standard.

According to Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry, 21-year-old Abel Medardo Sacrab-Chen came to Alabama roughly two years ago from the Central American country south of Mexico.

“I’m pissed off today,’’ Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said during a Wednesday press conference. “I’m pissed off that we’re even having to have this conversation.”

“The victim felt that something wasn’t right,’’ he added. “Like good law-abiding citizens, he had his firearm with him, which is probably the only thing that saved his life.”

Gildon wrote about the ordeal on his social media account on the platform with the name that starts with an F and ends with a K.

Gildon says while he was in his truck, the suspect put a knife to his throat and demanded his money.

“But my pistol jammed, and I couldn’t get it to fire again so I threw it and exited the truck,’’ Gildon wrote. “He got my pistol and got it to work.”

“He came to execute me,’’ he wrote, “but God had a different plan.”

The suspect shot Gildon in the stomach, shoulder, and leg.

“Did I mention that I’m still here?” Gildon wrote. “God’s plan of a better testimony wouldn’t have worked if my pistol had continued to function. God’s plan is always better.”

Gildon says he was able to retrieve the firearm and shoot the suspect at least once.

He was eventually helped by Good Samaritans who stopped after seeing him injured.

Authorities apprehended the suspect after they found him still in Gildon’s truck.

The post and other posts describing what occurred have since been removed from the previously mentioned social platform.

“So I shared a post earlier today about Glenn Gildon having a 🔪 held to his throat and about him being pow pow’d by someone who wasn’t really supposed to be in Alabama and I get this notification saying it was “against…” one user of the platform wrote.

Gildon and the suspect, Sacrab-Chen, were both taken to a hospital where they are currently recovering.

Sherrif Gentry said Sacrab-Chen crossed the line that separates the United States and the country south of it to “become a violent criminal in our community.”

“That pisses me off that we allow an… into our country to make his way here to pose and sell something on the internet to then try to murder and rob a veteran,’’ Gentry said.

“You see it in California. You see it in New York, and today we see it in Cullman, Alabama which is ridiculous,” he added.

Retired Colonel Gildon is a former Brigade Commander at the Hood Mobilization Brigade and is currently the co-owner of a ranch in Alabama.
