A U.S. Army soldier assigned to Fort Stewart has been arrested in Georgia following an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse involving multiple alleged victims.
According to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Tyrone Barry Carter Jr. was arrested May 15 and charged with aggravated child molestation under Georgia law.
Investigators say the case began on Feb. 10, 2026, after a deputy responded to a residence in Douglas, Georgia, regarding reports of alleged sexual assaults. During the investigation, multiple individuals allegedly came forward accusing Carter of inappropriate sexual contact and sexual advances dating back several years.
Authorities said Carter is currently serving in the United States Army and stationed at Fort Stewart with the 3rd Infantry Division.

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, investigators coordinated with personnel at Fort Stewart, where Carter was detained before being transported to the Coffee County Jail.
The sheriff’s office stated the investigation remains active and ongoing and encouraged anyone with additional information or who believes they may have been a victim to contact investigators.
As of Tuesday morning, no publicly accessible superior court criminal filing related to the case could yet be located in Coffee County court records.
The Salty Soldier has submitted an open records with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office to obtain more information related to the alleged crimes.
The Salty Soldier will continue follow-up reporting on the case as additional information, court filings, and investigative records become available.
