The mainstream media has reignited coverage of transgender individuals serving in the military, particularly following President Trump’s executive order banning transgender troops. However, are these news organizations presenting the full picture?
Many media outlets appear to advocate for transgender rights rather than addressing the scientific perspective that gender dysphoria is classified as a disorder.
Recently, CBS News published a story about Major Kara Corcoran, an Army infantry officer who now identifies as a female soldier. Corcoran, who commissioned through Norwich University’s ROTC program, began transitioning in 2018.

There is no doubt that Major Corcoran, a ranger-qualified officer with two combat deployments to Afghanistan, has had a successful military career. However, Corcoran’s service does not directly relate to the executive order.
President Trump’s order specifically prevents individuals with gender identity issues from enlisting in the military. At the time of Corcoran’s commission, this policy was not in place, and Corcoran had not yet identified as transgender.
Following the Army’s implementation of the order, which included banning transgender enlistment and halting gender-affirming care, CBS interviewed Major Corcoran.
“Our country expects us, the taxpayers expect us, to be the strongest fighting force that we can be and to optimize our performance. That’s what you want, and that’s what we do, and transitioning allows us to do exactly that,” Corcoran stated.
“Bottom line, I have support from my chain of command. I have support from my peers, and they stand by me, and they believe that I should continue to serve,” Corcoran added.
However, CBS’s coverage relied solely on Corcoran’s personal perspective and did not include alternative viewpoints or address potential concerns. The article omitted discussion of the medical risks associated with hormone replacement therapy, which can include:
- Blood clots (Deep Vein Thrombosis, Pulmonary Embolism)
- Cardiovascular disease
- Liver strain
- Weight gain and fat redistribution
- Mood swings and emotional changes
- Decreased libido and erectile function
- Infertility
- Breast growth and tenderness
- Bone health risks
Additionally, CBS did not mention Corcoran’s participation in women’s professional sports, a controversial topic in its own right.
For over four years, Corcoran has been a member of the Denver Bandits, a team in the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC). According to the Denver Bandits’ website, “women’s tackle football in Denver offers an exciting platform for women to excel in a traditionally male-dominated sport.”

The debate over transgender women competing in women’s sports centers on fairness, biology, and inclusivity. Supporters argue that inclusion and equality should extend to transgender athletes, emphasizing that hormone therapy reduces physical advantages over time. They believe sports organizations should respect gender identity and note that existing regulations, such as hormone level requirements, help ensure fair competition.
However, opponents argue that biological advantages, such as larger bone structure, lung capacity, and muscle density, remain even after hormone therapy, potentially creating an unfair playing field. Concerns also include safety in contact sports, the lasting effects of male puberty, and the potential loss of opportunities for cisgender women in scholarships and rankings. Furthermore, inconsistent regulations across different sports contribute to ongoing debates about fairness. As research continues, sports organizations are constantly reevaluating their policies to balance inclusivity with competitive integrity.
Corcoran’s participation in women’s football raises questions about whether mainstream news organizations are selectively omitting information to fit a particular narrative. By failing to present all relevant details, media outlets risk undermining their credibility on significant national issues such as military service requirements and athletic competition policies.
