A US Army veteran was targeted by a brazen group of thieves in Arizona this week.
Michael Florant, an Army veteran who served in Desert Storm, says he woke up Wednesday morning to an alert on his phone that said his truck had been opened without the key.
When he told his wife, she said she saw a notification on Ring’s Neighborhood social media that a white truck had been stolen in the area.
“I came out, opened my garage door, and my truck was gone,” Florant told the local Fox affiliate.
When he reviewed his home’s Ring camera footage, he saw four people in a white Chevy Camaro pull up to his house just before 2:30 a.m.
The armed and masked criminals were able to steal his truck after disabling its horn, and starting it without the key.
“They were gone in five minutes. The one who disabled the horn that had the AK-47, pointing in this direction, in case I were to come out,” Florant said.
Maricopa County Sherriff’s office is investigating the theft but the investigation is in its infancy so details are limited.
It is not known if the criminals knew who Florant was before targeting him but The Salty Soldier discovered he is an NRA and USCCA certified instructor.
Florant owns Desert Ridge Defense, which offers firearms training courses such as defensive shooting.
“Our passions are FAITH, FAMILY and FIREARMS. We are dedicated to training people on how to safely handle, shoot and care for their firearms. It would be an honor and a blessing if you were to allow us to facilitate all of your training needs,” his website states.
As the Ring camera footage has made its rounds across social media, many were quick to weigh in on what they would have done if they caught the thieves.
Some suggest he could have engaged them, despite being outnumbered because he had his home as a “defensive position.”
Others contended an insured car is not worth putting him putting his family in danger for.
Florant is the proud father of a son who currently serves in the Georgia National Guard.
