A U.S. Navy Sailor in Washington was sentenced to prison for possession of child pornography in July of this year.
The Navy says MMN3 (MACHINIST’S MATE, NUCLEAR POWER) Remington Brattin was sentenced after taking a plea during a General Court-Martial in Bremerton, Washington.
Bremerton is home to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, the Bremerton Annex of Naval Base Kitsap, and the Ronald Reagan and USS Nimitz aircraft carriers.
According to the Navy, Brattin’s rating required him to “perform all maintenance on the steam-powered propulsion plants aboard aircraft carriers and submarines to ensure our fleet can move safely.”
Since he was nuclear trained, he could have also performed duties in nuclear propulsion plants operating reactor control, propulsion, and power generation systems.
The rating requires a security clearance and those who join are eligible to receive up to a $50,000 bonus for first-time enlistment.
Brattin, of Marietta, Georgia, went to work at a Six Flags water park after graduating High School in 2018, according to his social media.
His job duties presumably put him in close proximity to thousands of children.
For five months, he worked as a Lead Lifeguard at Six Flags White Water (Cobb, Georgia) and left the job for unknown reasons in October of 2019.
He joined the Navy sometime after leaving the job.
On July 24, 2024, a military judge sentenced him to 24 months confinement, reduced his paygrade to E-1, and gave him a Dishonorable Discharge.
