The Pentagon has issued a statement, confirming the death of a U.S. Army officer in Poland this week.

Lt. Col. Joshua Camara, 45, a public affairs officer was found dead Tuesday.

Camara was stationed at Camp Kosciuszko in Poznan and had been assigned to V Corps forward headquarters since June.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with Lt. Col. Josh Camara’s family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time,” V Corps Chief of Staff Col. Kevin Jackson said in the statement. “He was an outstanding leader and mentor, and we will remember his legacy and impact.”

Early reports from Polish news outlets claimed his death might of involved foul play but according to an Army spokesperson, Maj. Joe Bush, there is no evidence to suggest any foul play occurred.

TVP, a Polish news network claims Camara’s body was found inside an apartment located in Poznan.

Polish police are conducting the primary investigation into his death and the Army Criminal Investigative Division is conducting an investigation as well.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Lt. Col. Joshua Camara served in the Army for over 20 years.

“I was honored to have met, worked with, and served beside Joshua Camara during Operation Atlantic Resolve in 2017 when we worked as Public Affairs Officers on the vanguard mission to bring American iron to Poland,” wrote retired Army Lt. Col. Kevin Boyd. “This is a sad day indeed and my prayers are for his family during this trying time.”
