Soldier dies after jumping off bridge near Fort Moore

A 19-year-old soldier assigned to Fort Moore has died from his injuries after jumping off a bridge in Georgia.

The unidentified soldier jumped off the Dillingham Street Bridge, which crosses the Chattahoochee River that separates Georgia and Alabama.

According to authorities in Columbus, GA, the soldier hit the water chest first and collapsed after he got out of the water.

Emergency responders were called to the scene around 2 p.m. on Monday, according to the local ABC.

The unnamed soldier was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to the Muscogee County Coroner, he died from blunt-force trauma to his chest.

The coroner ruled the death an accident.
