The U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division has announced the death of Spc. Stephen Akinlotan, 21, who passed away Monday afternoon in the garrison area of Fort Campbell.
“The death of Spc. Akinlotan is a tragic moment for every Rakkasan soldier, past and present, and my heart aches for this young soldier’s family and friends,” said Col. Rick Turner, commander of the 3rd Mobile Brigade, in a statement. “Stephen was a caring and beloved soldier who proudly served his nation at home and overseas. Our hearts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow soldiers during this difficult time.”

A native of Dumfries, Virginia, Akinlotan was an infantryman assigned to the 3rd Mobile Brigade, known as the “Rakkasans.”
He enlisted in the Army in July 2021, completing his training at Fort Benning, Georgia, before being stationed at Fort Campbell in January 2022.
According to his service records, he deployed to Estonia with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team.
His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Assault Badge.
“We are fully committed to providing support, counseling, and services to anyone affected by this loss,” Turner added. “Fort Campbell has a strong network of resources, including chaplains, mental health professionals, and medical personnel, all actively working to support our soldiers.”
The cause of his death remains under investigation.
