In a viral TikTok video titled “The long awaited story of how we met,” an Army Sergeant Brandon Guerra and Sergeant Major Molly Haro addressed curiosity and speculation surrounding their unconventional love story. The couple, who have drawn attention for their significant rank difference, took the opportunity to set the record straight about their relationship, marriage, and how it all aligns with Army regulations.
Brandon, who initially served in the Marine Corps as a paralegal at Camp Pendleton, left the service to pursue his dream of playing professional baseball. “I got out due to baseball reasons,” Brandon explained in the video. “I wanted to go continue my career in baseball and chase my dreams. I played in the minors for about three and a half—four years. Then, last year, I just had a freak injury. You know, ruptured my Achilles and everything.”

During his time away from the military, Brandon was also working as an electrician and active on TikTok, which is where Molly first noticed him. “She stumbled upon my TikToks when I was already going through a bad little breakup or whatever,” he recounted. “During that time, she liked one of my posts, I liked her back-and-forth, all that, and then you know, I did what you know the E4 mafia clan did—you like, whatever. I shot my shot. And they say shooters shoot, so I shot. And I don’t miss. Hence why I’m here,” he said, proudly pointing to his wedding ring.
Molly, who had already established herself in the Army for over a decade when they met, had a different perspective. “I joined in 2009. When we met, I was already a Sergeant Major select headed to the Academy,” she clarified. “We started talking on the internet first. I went through my divorce. He was going through whatever he went through, and we started chatting that way.”
For over a year, they maintained a long-distance relationship, with Brandon living in Arizona and Molly stationed in Texas. “I PCS’d to El Paso. I think I was there for a good five months prior to moving down there. So either way, our relationship was established prior to him joining,” Molly said.
According to the Army, Molly was promoted to Sergeant Major in August of 2024 and is serving as (42A) Human Resources Specialist.

Brandon had been contemplating rejoining the military long before he and Molly became a couple, and their relationship only reinforced his decision. “This had been a talk probably when we first started talking that he was thinking about rejoining the military. He missed a lot, and of course, I do it every day. So he moved to El Paso and I was already in the academy. I had already been serving 14 years. I had already made Sergeant Major. There was nothing crazy.”
Their relationship has raised questions regarding military regulations, specifically those concerning fraternization between enlisted personnel of different ranks. According to Army Regulation 600-20, relationships between Soldiers of different ranks are generally prohibited if they compromise the chain of command or supervisory authority, cause actual or perceived favoritism, involve the improper use of rank or position for personal gain, or are exploitative or coercive in nature. However, exceptions exist, including relationships that began before one party rejoined the military or cases where no direct command authority exists between the two individuals. Since Brandon and Molly’s relationship was established before he reenlisted and he retained his previous rank from his Marine Corps service, they were not in violation of these regulations.

Molly acknowledged the skepticism but remained firm in their compliance with Army policies. “We knew this was gonna be a big thing, but at the end of the day, regulation is regulation,” she said. “Life is good. We love it. We appreciate the support from everybody out there making jokes.”
While many expected a scandalous or dramatic backstory, Brandon and Molly’s story is much simpler. “I know everyone was wanting this really cool story. It’s not that cool,” Molly admitted with a laugh. “We met on TikTok, he was a baseball player, I had already had my life established, been in the military for quite a while.”
Now happily married, the couple embraces both the support and the humorous speculation from their growing audience. “At the end of the day, we did everything by the book,” Brandon said. “People can say what they want, but we know our story.”
