Group alleges Army failing to protect potential victims in soldier child abuse case

New developments have emerged regarding Army Specialist Brandon Storey, a 27-year-old active-duty soldier assigned to Fort Carson in Colorado, who was arrested after being accused of soliciting minors for illegal sexual activity.

The case has sparked widespread attention following the release of a video by a child predator hunting group.

The arrest followed a confrontation between Spc. Storey and the Colorado Ped Patrol, a local organization that exposes alleged child predators.

The footage, released in late November, showed Storey being accused of using his military status to gain the trust of minors online. He allegedly infiltrated teen-oriented groups, initiating conversations that quickly turned explicit.

According to Colorado Ped Patrol, Storey’s behavior escalated further when he bragged to a decoy posing as an 11-year-old about past abuse involving his stepsister.

The group claims they carefully documented explicit and incriminating conversations with Storey, who attempted to cover his tracks by removing the decoy from his social media contacts. However, the evidence had already been secured.

When confronted by law enforcement, Storey reportedly became agitated, demanding the return of his phone and attempting to retrieve it from a police vehicle.

El Paso County court records show Storey was arraigned on January 22, 2025, on unspecified charges. His next court appearance, a pretrial conference, is scheduled for February 27, 2025.

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) confirmed awareness of the confrontation between Colorado Ped Patrol and Storey, which occurred on November 22 in a Walmart parking lot in Fountain, Colorado.

According to Mark Lunardi, a spokesperson for Army CID, Colorado Ped Patrol contacted Army investigators ahead of the planned confrontation. However, Lunardi stated that the group failed to provide sufficient information prior to the meeting.

Colorado Ped Patrol disputes this claim, citing email records showing they sent a link with evidence to an Army investigator but the link was inaccessible due to military IT restrictions.

They claim that Army investigators also canceled their involvement hours before the meeting, prompting the group to relocate the confrontation off base.

Lunardi stated earlier this month that the investigation is ongoing and Storey was not in custody at the time.

Colorado Ped Patrol’s spokesperson, Ray Rayborn, expressed concern that Storey may still have access to electronic devices, as his profiles on certain apps used by offenders to communicate with potential victims remain active.

Military records show that Spc. Storey has been serving in the Army since 2016 and is currently assigned to the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

Fort Carson Public Affairs has not yet responded to inquiries made last month by The Salty Soldier about his duty status.
