The question of whether wearing a military uniform makes ordinary people more interesting has long been debated.
Seemingly ordinary people, without special hobbies, talents, or extraordinary looks are finding fame on Instagram and TikTok just for their military service.
One of those people is Sergeant Lia Kieck, who goes by “Lia White” on social media.
She provided a side-by-side comparison of her Instagram posts, showing her in uniform versus out of uniform, and it revealed that users preferred her wearing the Army uniform.
As military influencers continue to rise in popularity, one can’t help but wonder: are they joining the military to gain fame?
Sergeant Kieck says she prefers being in the National Guard because she likes having her civilian life and career as well.
She currently works for Marine Repair Services as an HR Payroll Specialist.
She relocated to Charleston, SC after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Human Resources and Marketing in May of 2023.
According to her LinkedIn, she joined the National Guard in 2019 and has been serving for almost six years.
She presumably started in the Wisconsin National Guard but has since been allowed to transfer to South Carolina, where she has been.
With more than 126K followers on TikTok and over 13 million likes, she has been open about her earnings.
During her annual mandatory two-week National Guard training, she revealed she made almost $9,000 -mostly from her social media.
During the two-week period, the National Guard paid her $2,548, while she earned $4,401 from her mostly military-related social media content.
Her civilian job’s paycheck during that time was only $1770, but she earned a total of $8,719 combined.
Sergeant Kieck admits the National Guard contributes to her success on social media, which is her largest source of income, so who is really serving who?
