A North Dakota high school student is going viral for getting a perfect score on the ASVAB test.
Jonas Braun, an 11th-grade student at Beulah High School, in Beulah, North Dakota, is only one of 200 students at his small-town school but has been clearly studying more than most other students across the country.
The news of his score was announced by the Beulah public school system when they posted a picture of him holding his ASVAB score of 99 and congratulated him this week.
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is the standardized test that helps determine a person’s eligibility for military service and what potential careers they qualify for in the military.
Braun’s score of 99 is his ASVAB Composite Score, also called the Standard Score, and is relative to the national average for young adults in the same grade level.
Most students score between 30 and 70, with 50 being average and 60 being above average.
Braun’s composite score means he did better than 99 percent of all other 11-graders taking the test across the country.
The test is not only taken by students intending to join the military, many students are encouraged to take advantage of the ASVAB CEP to see what civilian careers they may be best suited for.
The Beulah public school system did not indicate if Bruan plans on enlisting or state what branch he might be considering, but many veterans speculated online.
“He’s gonna pick infantry we had a guy like that in our platoon,” one said.
“He’s too smart for the army or marines. USAF or Navy,” another said.
“I’m Army. I got a 99 on my ASVAB and a 30 on my ACT,” and soldier responded. “Tons of challenging careers for intellectuals in the Army.”
According to school athletic records, Braun is also a varsity athlete who competes in cross-country running.
