Update: November 5 -The U.S. Army has announced that a missing Fort Polk soldier has been found dead.
Details about his death are still limited.
November 2 – The Army says a soldier has gone absent without leave from Fort Johnson (formerly Fort Polk) in Louisiana.
26-year-old Sergeant (Sgt.) David Lee Johnson was reported missing after failing to report for duty on October 29th.
Sgt. Johnson is an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment and could be armed and dangerous if approached, the Army warned.
They encouraged anyone who encounters him to not engage and to call law enforcement.
Army investigators warned he may be armed with firearms.
According to the Army, Johnson is 6’4″ tall and has blue eyes.
Investigators believe Sgt. Johnson might be on his way to Colorado or has already arrived since going missing on Oct. 28.
They report he was last seen in Amarillo, Texas.
According to messages internally distributed within the Army, Johnson is headed to Colorado to “settle old scores.”
A warning sent to soldiers at Fort Carson, states Johnson was formerly a sniper in the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment at Fort Carson.
It warned he could be heading to Denver or the Fort Carson/Colorado Springs area.
The Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information regarding his whereabouts.
CID encourages anyone with information about his whereabouts to call them at 334-733-6840.
