An Army sergeant in Texas has died after being injured during an on-duty accident in Texas this weekend.
26-year-old Sgt. Christopher Sutton died after being injured in a training accident at Fort Bliss, according to a news release from the Army installation.
On Saturday evening, he was transported to the University Medical Center of El Paso in critical condition.
He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
He was assigned to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division as a motor transport operator with the 47th Brigade Support Battalion.
“Sgt. Sutton was a respected and valued member of the Pioneer team, a leader of the highest caliber,” Lt. Col. Jed Hudson, commander of the 47th Brigade Support Battalion, said in a statement.
The Army has begun the investigation into his death and did not disclose more details about the accident.
The Army is conducting an investigation into the soldier’s death and details regarding the incident have not been disclosed.
Officials said Sutton attended basic combat training and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood after enlisting in the U.S. Army in 2019 from Honolulu, Hawaii.
Before arriving at Fort Bliss early this year, he deployed to Poland in support of Operation European Assure Deter and Reinforce in June of 2022.
His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
