“True love, there is nothing better:” Army Infantry paratrooper forced to leave her love behind after being retired

Rachel Teague says she recently retired -likely medical due to her short time in service- from the Army after serving as an Airborne Infantryman.

This year. she started school at Southern Illinois University but says on her social media she misses the Army.

It’s not known why she was early retired from the Army Infantry but a TikTok post of hers suggests it was related to a sexual assault against her.

During her time in the 82nd Airborne Division she developed an intensely close relationship with a fellow paratrooper who is still serving.

“There will be a day that I have to say goodbye to this beautiful soul when I move across country I’m sitting here crying because you’re my best friend,” she wrote about Specialist Blalock, an Army cannon crewmember (13B).

“I’m sitting here crying because there’ll be a day that I can’t just come over but there will also be a day where I see you again and get to raise my kids with you and do everything we planned. I already missed my best friend even though I’m not moving yet. I love you.”

The two have professed their love and longing for each other in numerous videos on TikTok.

“True love, there is nothing better,” a fellow soldier said during a video of the two together. “They have a Romeo and Juliet story going that is for the ages,” he added.

While they claim they are only best friends and soul mates, numerous social media posts indicate they may have been married at some point.

Regardless of their relationship status, they have made it very clear the distress the separation has caused.

This is something that has been one of the hardest parts of military life. Deployments, schools, training, PCS, and numerous other things can separate soldiers who have developed strong bonds.

According to the World Health Organization, hundreds of millions of people currently suffer from depression.

This month, on October 10th, the world recognizes “World Mental Health Day” to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.

This year’s theme -for lack of a better word- is “Mental Health at Work.”

“This World Mental Health Day, WHO is uniting with partners to highlight the vital connection between mental health and work,” the WHO says.

“Safe, healthy working environments can act as a protective factor for mental health. Unhealthy conditions including stigma, discrimination, and exposure to risks like harassment and other poor working conditions, can pose significant risks, affecting mental health, overall quality of life and consequently participation or productivity at work.”
