The 24-year-old Air Force medical sergeant who went viral for an argument over her uniform pants is now conducting interviews with Air Force officers.
In November 2023, Staff Sergeant Rylee Hatch, an Air Force Medic, was called out by Army veteran YouTuber when asking why female servicemembers wear their uniform pants so tight above their hips.
“Why ya’ll do this?” Nikko Ortiz said in his reaction video to her TikTok about wearing over-the-hip uniform pants.
“Ladies when you’ll do this, you get the paper bag butt,” he said. “It’s just like a weird piece of air that fills that cavity.”
Hatch responded to his video by posting a video to TikTok.
“I didn’t really think we would be back here, but here we are,” Rylee says to start her video.
She begins by undoing her uniform belt to show her uniform pant’s waistline above her hips.
“It is physically impossible to put these lower,” she says.
TikTokers seemed to side with Hatch and called out Ortiz for making a big deal about what they said was a non-issue.
The incident did not dissuade her from producing content on TikTok, where she has over 700k followers.
This month, she conducted interviews with Air Force officers for her TikTok after getting approval or was encouraged to do so.
Torch Athena, a women’s initiative program within AETC, has the primary goal of fostering camaraderie among participants and addressing critical issues as a united team.
Her interviews were filmed in San Antonio with the riverwalk in the backdrop and seem to be at the Hilton Palacio del Rio, which hosted the Air Force Education and Training Commands’ (AETC) Torch Athena Rally last month.
According to the Air Force, “more than 300 Airmen and Guardians from across AETC and the U.S. Space Force came together for the two-day event.”
“Attendees heard from 40 speakers and panelists during the event as well as took part in numerous mentoring sessions and interactive events.”
During the first-ever Torch Athena event, last year, the Air Force stated it is a “women’s initiative program within AETC” which has the primary goal of fostering camaraderie among participants and addressing critical issues as a united team.
Hatch interviewed mostly female officers from around the Air Force and one prior-enlisted USAF drone pilot.
“I thought a drone was this super small thing, apparently it’s not,” she told the pilot.
“No their big, their big aircraft…they can hold large payloads,” he responded.
