The Army identified two National Guard soldiers who died during incidents in Baghdad, Iraq on Wednesday.

The Army identified them as Spc. Travis Jordan Pameni and Spc. Owen James Elliott of the Georgia Army National Guard.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Specialist Pameni and Specialist Elliot,” said Maj. Gen. Dwayne Wilson, Adjutant General of the Georgia Guard. “Both of these soldiers selflessly served our state and nation. We extend our prayers and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of both soldiers.”

The Army said their deaths just happened to occur on the same day but occurred during unrelated, non-combat incidents.

23-year-old Pameni was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, and was from Douglasville, Georgia.

Elliott, who was also 23, was from Twin City, Georgia, and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, which is based out of Savannah, Georgia.
