A West Point graduate and Army officer has gained significant attention for building a business from her social media presence.

1LT Alana Larcombe, a petite soldier standing around 5 feet tall, has captured the interest of thousands by sharing glimpses of her life in the Army.

Originally from Sugar Land, Texas, Larcombe graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2020, commissioning as a Field Artillery Officer (13A).

Her candid posts, which showcase her experiences both on and off duty, have earned her a dedicated online following, and she has successfully leveraged this platform to launch a business.

She accepts donations from followers and charges $600 to $1,500 for sponsored posts on her various social media accounts.

In an interview last year with Fort Sill Public Affairs, 1LT Larcombe revealed her career choice after graduation.

“I actually picked TRADOC as my post. I think it’s a hidden gem,” she shared, referring to her assignment with the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). “It offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the Army.”

While serving as a TRADOC battery commander, she led the unit’s shutdown in February 2023.

Afterward, she became a Public Affairs Officer (PAO) at Fort Sill and was featured in Field Artillery Magazine.

Although it’s unclear what motivated her transition from a combat MOS to PAO, it’s likely no coincidence that she also promotes Army life through her social media accounts, which she notes “does not represent the Department of Defense.”

Last year, she stated her goal of completing a Master’s in Social Media Digital Marketing and becoming a PAO for a brigade by 2024.

While she has not explicitly stated whether the Army has any influence over her social media presence or whether she uses her platform to climb the public affairs ranks within the Army, one might wonder if there’s more to the story.

After all, as the saying goes, “If it smells like poo, it’s probably poo.”
