New court documents reveal additional details in case of Army drill sergeant convicted at Fort Benning

Newly obtained court documents are shedding additional light on the case of a U.S. Army staff sergeant and former drill sergeant convicted earlier this year at Fort Benning for offenses involving child sexual abuse material.

As previously reported by The Salty Soldier, Staff Sgt. Kyle J. Maneke was convicted Feb. 2, 2026, at a general court-martial convened at Fort Benning, Georgia. Maneke pleaded guilty before a military judge to one specification of possession of child sexual abuse material and one specification of distribution of child sexual abuse material under Article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

The military judge sentenced Maneke to reduction to the grade of E-1, confinement for 42 months, and a bad-conduct discharge pursuant to a plea agreement.

The case drew attention after the Army confirmed Maneke had previously served as a drill sergeant at Fort Benning from November 2022 through November 2024. At the time charges were preferred and at the time of trial, he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Regiment, 198th Infantry Brigade.

The battalion is part of the Army’s Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT) program, where civilian recruits complete their combined basic training and infantry advanced individual training to become 11B infantrymen.

While Maneke was assigned to an OSUT battalion, the Army has not confirmed whether he was serving in a direct trainee-facing leadership role at the time the misconduct occurred.

Recently obtained charging documents provide additional insight into the scope of the allegations originally brought against Maneke before the case was resolved through a plea agreement.

According to the charge sheet, investigators alleged Maneke possessed multiple videos depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct across several digital storage devices and online accounts. The devices listed in the charging documents include a Samsung solid-state drive, a Western Digital hard drive, and an Apple iPhone.

One specification alleges Maneke stored more than 30 videos involving minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct on a MEGA cloud storage account — an online file hosting service that allows users to upload and store large amounts of data.

The charge sheet also alleges Maneke distributed illegal material involving minors through the messaging application Kik, which allows users to communicate using usernames rather than phone numbers.

According to the documents, one specification alleges Maneke sent four such videos between Oct. 15 and Oct. 16, 2025, while another specification alleges he sent three videos on or about Oct. 19, 2024.

Several possession specifications reference files allegedly located on the listed digital storage devices on or about Feb. 21, 2025 near Fort Benning.

The charge sheet shows the case was formally preferred on Oct. 29, 2025, before being referred to a general court-martial under the authority of Headquarters, Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning.

Available records indicate Maneke entered the Army no later than 2012, completing One Station Unit Training for infantry soldiers at Fort Benning before later serving with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas.

The Army has confirmed that Maneke is currently confined pending post-trial appellate review.

Despite repeated requests, the Army has not yet released the official Statement of Trial Results for the case, stating the document is not ready for public release.

The Salty Soldier will continue requesting additional records related to the investigation and court proceedings as they become available.
