Seven soldiers from the Israeli Air Force’s Arrow battalion have been detained following serious allegations of misconduct during what appears to have been a hazing ritual targeting new recruits.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have launched a Military Police investigation into the incident, which allegedly involved inappropriate and abusive behavior by veteran troops toward junior members in the 136th Air Defense Battalion—a unit responsible for operating Israel’s Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 missile systems.
According to Israeli media reports, approximately 10 new soldiers were subjected to repeated harassment over the span of several weeks. Some of the alleged behavior may have occurred during the recent conflict with Iran, in which the Arrow unit played a crucial role in intercepting incoming threats.
While some of the accused soldiers reportedly claimed their actions were meant in jest, military officials are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. Israeli Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar is personally involved in overseeing the response.
In a statement, the IDF emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that any form of misconduct, particularly during initiation events, will not be tolerated.
“The IDF views any act of violence seriously and adopts a zero-tolerance approach toward initiation ceremonies of this and other kinds,” the military said.
Though hazing incidents have occurred in other parts of the military in the past, this case stands out due to the elite status and high visibility of the unit involved.
