Marine allegedly had to be rescued after jumping off California pier

A video circulating online appears to show a Marine getting into trouble after jumping off the Oceanside Pier at night, prompting a late-night response from local emergency services. The short clip, filmed in near-total darkness, captures sirens and flashing lights as Oceanside Police and Fire Department units respond to the scene. While the Marine’s identity and condition remain unconfirmed, the location and timing suggest a potential violation of local ordinances and a risky stunt that could’ve ended much worse.

According to Oceanside Fire Department records, units responded to a medical emergency at the pier at 6:04 p.m. and remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes. However, given the video was filmed in the dark of night, this call is likely unrelated. Police dispatch records show a welfare check was conducted at the pier around 11:00 p.m., potentially tying directly to the incident captured on video.

Jumping off the Oceanside Pier isn’t unheard of—but it’s definitely illegal. Local surfers have been known to leap off the pier to shave a few paddles off their journey to the surf break, and social media stuntmen have made it a public spectacle. One of the most famous examples was YouTuber Isaiah Shepard—better known as “Steezy Kane”—who jumped off the pier on a dare from a girl during a video shoot. Lifeguards pulled him from the water, and he was cited by Oceanside Police.

He later went on to rack up 3.7 million subscribers on YouTube and brand deals with HBO Max and Hulu.

Oceanside’s municipal code makes it crystal clear: jumping off the pier is prohibited. Section 18.1 of the city ordinance outlines a long list of unlawful acts on the pier—diving, jumping, overhead casting, loitering at night, even cleaning fish outside of designated areas. And once you’re in the water, you’re required to stay at least 100 feet away from the pier at all times. There are no exceptions for Marines or social media clout.

The unnamed Marine in the recent video is likely assigned to Camp Pendleton, which borders Oceanside and serves as home to tens of thousands of active-duty personnel. While some may dismiss this as another reckless barracks bet gone wrong, the danger is very real. Strong rip currents, unseen pier pilings, and limited visibility at night turn what might seem like a harmless prank into a potential fatality.

As of now, there’s been no official statement from Camp Pendleton or the Oceanside Police Department regarding the Marine’s identity or any pending charges.
