An active-duty Army non-commissioned officer stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, is facing serious charges after allegedly stealing and storing a C4 explosive at his off-post residence.
Joshua King, 41, a member of the 588th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, has been charged with possession, use, or removal of explosives or incendiary devices, a Class 5 felony.
The case came to light on February 4 when King’s wife, amid divorce proceedings, discovered a block of C4 while cleaning their home in the 700 block of Sableglen Court in Colorado Springs, CO.

She reportedly found the explosive in a small wooden dresser in the garage and immediately contacted authorities. Special agents from the FBI and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) responded to the scene, confirming the C4 was still in its original packaging.
Investigators later learned that King had allegedly used the C4 to train a retired explosives detection canine given to him by his wife’s father, a former special agent.
According to reports, King would hide the explosive in various locations for the dog to locate. Additionally, during a separate domestic violence investigation, King’s ex-girlfriend informed CID agents that he had shown her photos of the C4 and claimed he had taken it from Fort Carson.
CID officials confirmed that King had no legitimate reason to possess the explosive and did not have an explosives permit. He was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail.
His first court appearance is scheduled for March 27.
Neighbors expressed shock at the discovery.
“It’s pretty wild,” Clinton Marshall, who lives nearby, told KRDO13 Investigates. “At least they found it, and it’s not threatening anybody else.”
Efforts to contact King for comment have been unsuccessful. Fort Carson officials have not yet responded to inquiries about any internal investigations or King’s current military status.
Updates will be provided as more details emerge.
