A U.S. Army officer, 1st Lieutenant Bria Feathers, has leveraged social media to challenge the Army’s decision to separate her from service following allegations of assault. Feathers claims that her public campaign on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram ultimately forced the Army to reconsider her removal.
The controversy began when Feathers was accused of assaulting her boyfriend’s friend. She denies the allegations and asserts that the accusation was made in retaliation for her reporting assaults committed against her by her boyfriend, Bobby Giles, a former Army officer.
Feathers claims her use of TikTok played a pivotal role in her fight for justice. “I’m convinced TikTok is better than [Army] CID,” she stated in a video.

“In July 2022, I experienced an assault by another officer in the U.S. Army. Despite reporting the incident, I found myself facing retaliation and the possibility of being discharged from the military,” Feathers stated on social media. “Turning to social media, I shared my ordeal, hoping to shed light on the injustices and prompt people to question the unfolding events. And it worked!”
Feathers was issued a General Officer Memorandum of Reprimand (GOMOR), a serious disciplinary action that can be career-ending for an Army officer for the assault she was accused of committing.
In her case, it blocked her promotion to Captain and put her military career in jeopardy. Officers who fail to promote twice are typically subject to separation, retirement, or removal.

Feathers argues that her GOMOR was unfairly issued, especially given that the investigation into the alleged assault came back “unfounded” in November 2022. She further claims that key evidence was ignored, including:
- A 117-day delay in interviewing Bobby Giles, allowing time for potential witness collusion.
- The omission of crucial text messages and witness sketches from the evidence packet.
- The failure to review video and audio recordings of Giles’ interview.
In an effort to clear her name, Feathers launched an online petition addressed to Major General Joseph E. Hilbert, Commander of the 11th Airborne Division. The petition calls for:
- A justification for the GOMOR’s issuance despite exculpatory evidence.
- A recommendation to remove the GOMOR from her record.
- Accountability for her alleged assailants, Bobby Giles and CW2 Brett Parran.
- Improved support for domestic violence victims within the U.S. Army.
Her petition states, “1LT Bria Feathers is a domestic violence survivor who has been wrongfully punished. The evidence overwhelmingly supports her account of the events. We urge you to act justly and rectify this grave injustice.”
The Salty Soldier has requested additional evidence from her. However, Feathers has not responded to these inquiries.
