As wildfires rage across Los Angeles County, chaos has spread to neighboring Orange County, where an Army Reserve Center in Tustin became the target of a bold robbery.
According to police reports, between 8:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, unknown suspects infiltrated a storage warehouse at the Reserve Center, removing locks on multiple storage lockers and stealing military equipment.
A failed attempt to cut a lock to the uniform storage area was also noted.
The suspects gained further access by cutting through a fence leading to a military vehicle parking lot, where they stole three Humvees. The suspects left the scene at an unknown time.
The targeted Reserve Center, located just north of John Wayne Airport, is home to the Army’s 419th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. The stolen items include:
- One armored Humvee (Model: M1151A1, ADMIN: HHC-06)
- Two cloth-door Humvees (Model: M1097s, ADMIN: HQ-61 and HQ-81)
- Eight machine gun vehicle mounts
- Seven free-standing machine gun tripods
- Medical equipment
- 40 pairs of binoculars
- 18 bayonets
This robbery has raised serious concerns about the security protocols at military facilities, especially during times of regional crisis, such as the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles County.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Schaller at 714-573-3245.
