Soldier who died in undisclosed location was only deployed for roughly 60 days

The Department of Defense announced today the death of an Indiana Army National Guard soldier who was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Capt. Eric Richard Hart, 34, of Indianapolis, Indiana, died on Dec. 28, 2024, in Iraq as a result of a non-combat-related incident. The incident is under investigation.

Hart was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 38th Infantry Division, Indiana National Guard, based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Approximately 600 Hoosier Guardsmen deployed overseas in September to support Operation Spartan Shield in the Middle East.

The Army has yet to release additional information and has not provided details about the deaths of two Georgia National Guard soldiers who died in Iraq in August.

Spc. Travis Jordan Pameni and Spc. Owen James Elliott both died on the same day in Baghdad from “non-combat deaths.”

The Georgia National Guard was unable to provide further information to The Salty Soldier.

The Georgia National Guard Public Affairs spokesperson who received the request referred the inquiries to United States Army Central, but the agency has not confirmed receipt of the request after multiple attempts to contact them.

Spc. Travis Jordan Pameni, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, died in Baghdad following an incident in an undisclosed location.

Spc. Owen James Elliott, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, deployed to the Middle East in December 2023.
