New information released about soldier who was found dead with his wife at Fort Johnson

The Ross family has turned to the community for financial support in the wake of a devastating loss. Cpl. Perrin Ross, 24, an infantryman with the 1st Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment, and his wife, Estephany Kin Ross, 25, were found deceased in their home at Fort Johnson (formerly known as Fort Polk).

The Army has described the loss as “tragic” but has not released further details about the incident. According to Perrin’s sister, Penelope Ross, the couple died in what she referred to as a “tragic accident.” The couple leaves behind two young sons, Leo and Gus.

“Perrin Ross and his lovely wife Estephany left behind their two little boys, Leo and Gus,” said Penelope in a public statement. “We are hoping to raise money for their funerals.”

Initially, a GoFundMe page was created by Perrin’s aunt, Shauna Ross Yadav, to collect donations for funeral expenses. However, this campaign was later taken down following a shift in circumstances, with refunds promised to those who contributed. Shauna explained the decision in a message shared with supporters:

“Hey Everyone, grief hits all humans in different ways. Due to a change in circumstance, we are making a pivot for our GoFundMe. The goal is the same, but we had to make some changes, and I have created a new campaign that respects the wishes of those who are going through incredible grief at this time.”

The revised campaign now aims to support Perrin’s parents, Casey and Megan Ross, as they face the dual challenges of mourning their son and daughter-in-law while caring for their young grandsons. The GoFundMe page explains that the funds will help the Ross family navigate an uncertain future while dedicating themselves to providing love and stability for Leo and Gus.

To date, the new campaign has raised nearly $5,000. Family members continue to share the fundraiser widely on social media, though most have declined to comment publicly on the tragedy.

Cpl. Ross enlisted in the Army in 2019 and had been stationed at Fort Johnson and the Joint Readiness Training Center since April 2023. Social media posts indicate Perrin grew up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had ties to Salt Lake City, Utah. However, he later distanced himself from the faith, describing himself as an “ex-Mormon.”

Perrin’s sister, Penelope, remains an active member of the church and has been serving as a missionary in Scotland and Ireland since September 2023.

Family posts also hint at a deep military heritage, with their father having served in the U.S. military at some point when service members wore BDUs (1980s – early 2000s).

The loss of Perrin and Estephany has deeply shaken their community and military family. The Ross family hopes to honor the memory of Perrin and Estephany by ensuring that Leo and Gus are surrounded by support in challenging years to come.
