Former Army cavalry scout selected to be the new Secretary of the Army

Daniel “Dan” Driscoll has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as the next Secretary of the Army, marking a significant milestone in his career as a former Army officer and political advisor.

A native of Boone, North Carolina, Driscoll graduated early from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to join the Army. He served for 3.5 years as a cavalry scout platoon leader, including a combat deployment to Iraq in 2009.

Following his military service, Driscoll attended Yale Law School on the GI Bill, where he developed a close relationship with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance.

His post-military career includes work as an investor and a political figure, including an unsuccessful run for Congress in North Carolina in 2020. His campaign focused on national security issues, reflecting his military background and policy interests​.
