Army admits to losing dozens of weapons and other sensitive items

Army investigators say they are still searching for dozens of Sig Sauer M17 pistols that went missing and have discovered more missing items.

Earlier this year, 31 pistols vanished from Fort Moore, Georgia. However, the case has since expanded as more military equipment has now been reported missing from the same Army post.

The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) recently announced a $15,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the pistols, two sets of night vision goggles, and an AN/PAS-13D Thermal Weapon Sight.

“Army CID is actively seeking any information relevant to the loss of the M17 pistols, ENVGs, and thermal optic,” a news release from the Army said.

Vectrus, aka V2X, a civilian contractor, was responsible for securing the items at one of Fort Moore’s armories, the Crescenz Consolidated Equipment Pool.

Army CID admits they are not able to determine exactly when the items went but the pistols were first reported missing on May 16.

They said they could have gone missing as early as March.

The other items are believed to have gone missing sometime between August and October of this year.

During an interview at Fort Moore’s (then Fort Benning) weapons pool sometime more than 15 years ago, it was said they receive and release 3,000 to 5,000 weapons a week.

Army CID says they are offering a 15,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the items.
