Army general who was shot numerous times in Iraq is now under investigation for attacking an Airman

A highly decorated U.S. Army general from Operation Iraqi Freedom is under investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for an alleged assault on an airman while aboard an aircraft.

Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla, the current commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), is accused of shoving an airman who was part of the crew on a C-17 aircraft he was traveling on last month.

According to officials, the altercation allegedly occurred after General Kurilla became frustrated with the aircraft’s communication and logistical issues. While expressing his frustration, Kurilla was instructed by an airman to take his seat and fasten his seatbelt for safety.

Witnesses aboard the aircraft, including several other service members, claim they saw Kurilla shove the airman in response.

When the Army Criminal Investigation Division was contacted for further information, they stated that no additional details were available at this time but confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

General Kurilla has long been known for his leadership in combat.

Over the course of his career, he has commanded the 75th Ranger Regiment, the 82nd Airborne Division, and played a key role in the Battle of Mosul, Iraq, in 2005.

After that battle, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for continuing to fight alongside his troops despite being wounded multiple times.

According to a senior administration official, Kurilla is still performing his duties as CENTCOM commander, which includes traveling throughout the Middle East.
