The wife of a soldier assigned to a US special operations unit was taken into custody on Wednesday for allegedly murdering her missing husband in Utah.

Authorities arrested Jennifer Gledhill, 41, and booked her into the Salt Lake County jail on one count of first-degree felony murder and one count of second-degree felony obstruction of justice.

The Salt Lake County District’s Attorney’s Office has yet to file formal charges.

“The Salt Lake County District’s Attorney’s Office is aware of the arrest of Jennifer Gledhill by the Cottonwood Heights Police Department on suspicion of the alleged murder of her husband, Matthew Johnson,” a statement says, according to Gephardt Daily.

“The matter will be screened for any charges, as is our protocol.”

According to court documents, Gledhill was arrested after she allegedly told someone that she had shot her husband, Matthew Johnson, in the head in the master bedroom of their home.

She also allegedly told them she destroyed evidence in the house and buried him in a shallow grave at an undisclosed location.

According to the informant, Johnson, a member of a Utah National Guard special operations unit, was shot on the night of September 20, or in the early hours of September 21.

According to CBS affiliate KUTV, authorities found a bloodstain on a carpet under the master bedroom bed and blood on the bed frame.

“Evidence also supports that significant clean up had taken place after this crime had occurred, including bleaching walls, and using carpet cleaning supplies,” a Cottonwood Heights police investigator said.

Gledhill and Johnson were in the middle of a divorce before his alleged murder and records show the court dismissed her request for a protective order against him four days before his disappearance.

“It is known that the couple had been considering divorce since July of this year and that they have three minor children, aged 11, 7, and 5 years,” Cottonwood Heights Police said in a press release.

Gledhill is being held with no bail pending a pretrial hearing.

The Salty Soldier has requested more information about Matthew Johnson’s military service from the Utah National Guard.
