Army officially charges soldier whose wife disappeared after family released investigation details

Update: The Army has officially filed charges against the soldier who is being held in pretrial confinement in connection to the disappearance of his pregnant wife in Hawaii.

Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II was charged with providing false statements, obstruction of justice, and production and distribution of child pornography.

“This case remains an active investigation,” said Michelle McCaskill, Office of Special Trial Counsel spokesperson in a press release. “We are confident that law enforcement will exhaust all efforts to find Mischa and the likelihood of additional charges is certainly a possibility as the case develops.”

Last week, the family of Johnson’s wife, Mischa Johnson, said in a livestream that authorities told them about evidence found in her husband’s car and home that suggests she is probably dead.

The family released this photo saying it is a picture of a tool found at Schofield Barracks and is similar to one that could have been used in the possible murder. (YouTube)

Mischa Johnson’s family requests that anyone who knows of a power saw tool being sold in the area or saw Pfc. Johnson buying a similar tool, to reach out to them or the Army’s CID.

They said it is hard to find information about Pfc. Dewayne Johnson but they know there are “people who know how to do investigative research about people” on the internet.

One of the family members even claims Pfc. Johnson’s platoon knew very little about him.

“He doesn’t associate with his platoon and he’s quiet and to himself,” the unnamed family member said during the livestream.

“That is what the commanding officer states and that is what his platoon states,” she added.

August, 26 – Less than a week after the soldier whose wife went missing was taken into custody, footage has emerged of him purchasing suspicious items before reporting her missing.

Army Criminal Investigation agents say they are investigating the whereabouts of 28-year-old Dewayne Arthur Johnson II during the two weeks before he reported his wife missing.

Private First Class (PFC) Johnson reported his wife missing, in Hawaii, on July 31 but multiple sources claim store surveillance videos show him purchasing tools and cleaning supplies before reporting her missing.

“We’re looking for … those small details that we can fill those gaps in those timelines with,” said Ruben Santiago, special agent in charge for the Department of the Army Criminal Investigations Division.

“Somebody out there, we feel has more information that would be valuable to this ongoing criminal investigation,” Santiago added.

PFC Johnson is currently being held at a military detention facility but no charges have yet to be filed.

His wife, Mischa Johnson was six months pregnant with a baby girl.

She is said to be six months pregnant, 5 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing around 170 pounds.

Pfc. Johnson, originally from Frederick, Maryland, enlisted in the Army in 2022. He was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in June 2023 and serves as a cavalry scout.

The Army is asking anyone with information that may help the investigation to call the ARMY CID Pacific Field office at (808) 208-0059.

The Army is also offering a $10,000 reward for information in connection to her disappearance.
