The Air Force has released the identity of the soldier who died at Shaw Air Force Base on Sunday.
Officials said a 55-year-old Army Lieutenant colonel died while exercising over the weekend.
He was identified as Lt. Col. Roderick Vinson of Charlotte North Carolina
Vinson enlisted in the Army in 1987 as an 11M (mechanized Infantryman) and later commissioned as a Transportation Officer in July of 1999.

He has been assigned to the U.S. Army Central since 2018.
“The ARCENT family is devastated by the untimely passing of Lt. Col. Roderick Vinson, a beloved member of our team and an incredible leader in the organization,” Col. Jason Squitier, U.S. Army Central’s deputy chief of staff, said in a statement.
Authorities are still investigating the death but said no foul play is suspected.
The investigation is being handled by Sumter Police Department and the Army Central Command.
Vinson’s awards and decorations include the Iraq Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the NATO Medal, among others.
