Two more soldiers identified in Iranian drone strike that killed six, one awaiting medical examiner confirmation

Two additional Army Reserve soldiers have now been identified following the Iranian drone strike that killed six U.S. service members in Kuwait on March 1, though one of the fallen still requires final confirmation by a medical examiner.

The Department of War announced that Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, 54, of Sacramento, California, is believed to have been among those killed during the unmanned aircraft system attack at Port Shuaiba, Kuwait. Officials say Marzan was present at the scene of the incident and is believed to be the individual who perished, though formal identification will be completed through medical examiner confirmation.

Marzan was assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, and was supporting Operation Epic Fury at the time of the attack.

The Department of War also confirmed the death of Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, 45, of Indianola, Iowa, who was killed during the same drone strike. Like Marzan, O’Brien was assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command.

According to the official release, O’Brien died on March 1 during the unmanned aircraft system attack at Port Shuaiba. Officials say the incident remains under investigation.

The strike occurred amid escalating hostilities between the United States and Iran, one day after U.S. and Israeli forces launched military operations targeting Iranian assets. Iranian forces responded with retaliatory attacks across the region, including the drone strike that hit the command facility where the soldiers were operating.

With the identification of O’Brien and the believed identification of Marzan, all six service members killed in the attack have now been publicly named.

Those killed include:

All six soldiers were assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) and were operating from a command center at the time of the strike.

Military officials have not released further operational details about the attack while the investigation remains ongoing.
