“I’m cooked:” Dyess AFB Airman arrested for allegedly soliciting a minor

An enlisted U.S. Air Force airman assigned to Dyess Air Force Base was arrested in Abilene, Texas, in December on felony and misdemeanor charges following an on-view arrest by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, according to police and jail records.

The arrest records identify the accused as Joshua Irvin Avila, 21, an active-duty airman residing in on-base barracks housing at Dyess AFB.

According to a sworn arrest affidavit, deputies encountered Avila on the night of December 19, 2025, near 2250 East North 10th Street in Abilene.

The affidavit states Avila had been communicating online with a juvenile who identified herself as 16 years old during the exchange. Investigators allege that after the age disclosure, Avila continued the conversation and acknowledged the juvenile’s age before discussing meeting in person.

Police records state that Avila arranged to meet the juvenile and arrived at the location in a vehicle later identified as a blue Subaru Impreza.

According to the affidavit, when deputies made contact and instructed Avila to exit the vehicle, he did not comply with commands. Deputies reported that he resisted verbal instructions while remaining inside the car and was subsequently removed and placed in restraints.

Avila was transported to the Taylor County Jail for booking.

He was charged with:

  • Online solicitation of a minor – sexual conduct, a felony offense under Texas law
  • Resisting arrest, search, or transport, a misdemeanor offense

Avila was later released from custody after posting bond.
