FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fort Bragg paratrooper was killed early Saturday morning after a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Person Street and Old Wilmington Road, marking yet another deadly year for service members on Fayetteville roads.
Fayetteville police identified the rider as Spc. Jackson Corum, 21, originally from Tennyson, Indiana. Officers were called just after 3 a.m. on Nov. 22 for reports of a motorcycle wreck involving a Honda sport bike that struck the traffic circle. Corum was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died the following day.
His passenger, 20-year-old Jasmine Islam of Fayetteville, sustained injuries but is expected to recover, according to police.
Corum served as an unmanned aircraft systems repairer (15E) and was assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division since 2023. Before joining the Army, he had been publicly recognized by his hometown recruiting station for his motivation, technical aptitude, and eagerness to attend Airborne School. Fort Bragg officials confirmed he had earned the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Parachutist Badge during his service.

His death is part of a troubling trend for the region. This year alone, Fayetteville has recorded 27 traffic fatalities, nine of them involving motorcycles, according to the Fayetteville Observer. Six have involved Fort Bragg service members, five of whom were riding at the time of the accident. For a community that prides itself on being home to the 82nd Airborne Division and other high-tempo units, the continuing rise in off-post vehicle deaths hits hard.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477) or submit information through the P3 Tips mobile app.
