Teacher, wife of Army Lt. Colonel placed on leave after making video with daughters

A Colorado substitute teacher—married to a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army—has been placed on administrative leave after posting a disturbing video in which her young daughters gleefully guess that the “best news ever” is the death of Donald Trump.

Krista Cole, a progressive activist and substitute teacher in Colorado Springs, filmed herself with her two daughters in what she thought would be a funny family moment. Instead, what she captured ignited a firestorm of backlash that now threatens not only her employment but her husband’s standing in the U.S. military.

“Best news ever,” Cole says on camera, smiling as she teases the children.

“Donald Trump died?” one daughter excitedly responds.

When that guess was wrong, the girls tried again:

“The Vice President died?”

“Elon Musk died?”

Eventually, Cole reveals the “real” good news: Taylor Swift got engaged to NFL star Travis Kelce.

That’s right—she had her kids joking about the deaths of political figures and influential Americans just to set up a celebrity gossip punchline. The video, originally posted to her personal social media, has since gone viral—and not in the way she’d hoped.

The fallout didn’t stop with the classroom. Krista Cole’s husband is Lieutenant Colonel Adam Cole, a high-ranking officer in the Colorado Army National Guard. As of March 2023, he was serving as battalion commander for the 1st Battalion, 157th Infantry Regiment, and more recently listed on LinkedIn as the Deputy Commander of the 89th Troop Command. That LinkedIn profile has since been deleted.

Now, Army and civilian leadership alike are fielding calls from furious parents, veterans, and social media watchdogs. Comments range from demands for a Child Protective Services visit to calls for military accountability.

One user on X wrote:

“A military wife posted that the best news her kids thought of was the death of the Commander-in-Chief? We’re cooked.”

Another said:

“Unbelievable. The father of these children is a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army? Unreal.”

School District Responds — But Is It Enough?

Cole worked at Chipeta Elementary School, part of Colorado Springs School District 11. Officials there confirmed she’s now on leave while they investigate.

“When there is a concern that an employee may have violated a district policy in an egregious manner, it is our practice to place them on administrative leave while we conduct a thorough review,” the district said in a statement to Daily Mail.

They also confirmed there was no known threat to school safety.

But many are asking the bigger question: Why was this behavior ever considered acceptable by someone entrusted with young minds—and married to a man sworn to defend the very Constitution and Commander-in-Chief her kids are now joking about killing?

A Nation Reeling From Real Violence

This video surfaced in the same week conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was assassinated during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. While there is no direct link between Kirk’s murder and Cole’s video, the timing has amplified concern over rising left-wing political extremism and the normalization of death-wishing against conservatives.

Republican leaders, including Trump himself, have warned that political polarization is reaching a dangerous tipping point—one where “jokes” like this aren’t just tasteless but potentially dangerous.

A YouGov poll cited by conservatives shows 26% of young liberals believe violence is sometimes justified to achieve political goals.

Culture War in the Ranks?

This incident once again raises tough questions about the politicization of military families and the values being instilled in children by military spouses.

Are progressive ideologies quietly infiltrating our schools—and even the homes of those who wear the uniform?

More importantly, how do we reconcile a senior military officer’s oath with a household where children cheer at the thought of their nation’s leader being dead?

Krista Cole may have thought she was making a joke. But nobody’s laughing now—especially not the American taxpayers funding both her salary and her husband’s commission.

At a time when political violence is no longer hypothetical, videos like this aren’t just cringe—they’re dangerous. They erode trust in our institutions, from public schools to the military itself.

And when the children of a military officer cheer for the death of the President, we have to ask: Who’s really raising these kids—and what kind of country will they inherit?
