While the rest of his unit are prepping rucks and packing duffel bags, one Army Staff Sergeant won’t be showing up for mobilization — because he’s currently in a Missouri jail for allegedly raping his 9-year-old daughter.
SSG Brian Thomas Criss, a Reservist assigned to the 428th Transportation Company (Missouri Army Reserve), was supposed to report for a full year of active duty on September 12, 2025. He had already received mobilization orders in July and was cross-leveled over to the 724th Transportation Company out of Illinois.
Instead of checking in at Cavazos, he’s sitting in the Christian County Jail.

Criss was arrested on August 20th and charged in Christian County, Missouri, with first-degree rape of a child under 12 — specifically, his own daughter, according to bond hearing records.
According to the State of Missouri’s request for arrest, Criss allegedly told a police sergeant his daughter was [CENSORED].
“He allegedly held [CENSORED],” the document states.
He then made [CENSORED].
According to the police sergeant, Criss allegedly also told him that “he could not prevent the [CENSORED]“

Despite allegedly admitting to the crimes, Criss pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on August 21, where he appeared without legal representation. During the hearing, Prosecutor Kristen Tuohy argued that Criss poses both a danger to the community and a flight risk, citing the severity of the charges—which carry a mandatory sentence of life without parole if convicted. Tuohy contended that no combination of pretrial release conditions could reasonably ensure the safety of the victim or the public. The judge denied bond.
Criss is scheduled to reappear in court on September 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
At the time of his arrest, Criss was reportedly on leave from his Reserve unit. He was scheduled to return to duty on September 11, prior to a planned reassignment to Fort Cavazos.
If convicted, state law requires that he be sentenced to life imprisonment without eligibility for probation or parole until he has served at least 30 years.
