A Fort Bragg soldier who admitted to assaulting his wife and threatening to kill his spouse and unborn child has been sentenced to 245 days in confinement following a special court-martial.
According to military court records, Pfc. Sean J. Marcum, an automated logistics specialist assigned to G Company, 307th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, pleaded guilty to multiple offenses during a March 2, 2026 court-martial at the Fort Bragg courthouse.
The charges included attempted escape from confinement, willfully disobeying a superior officer, damaging government property, communicating a threat, and domestic violence in violation of Articles 80, 90, 108, 115, and 128b of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
A military judge sentenced Marcum to reduction to the grade of E-1, 245 days of confinement, a $735.70 fine, and a bad-conduct discharge from the Army. The sentence was issued pursuant to a plea agreement.
According to information released by the Army, the case began on Feb. 6, 2025, when personnel at Womack Army Medical Center reported suspected domestic violence after treating Marcum’s wife for injuries. Army Criminal Investigation Division agents opened an investigation following the report.

The next day, Marcum’s commander issued a military protective order requiring him to stay at least 50 feet away from his spouse.
Investigators later determined that Marcum violated the order on April 12, 2025, when he returned to his wife’s home and initiated another altercation. During the confrontation, Marcum reportedly wrapped his arms around his wife’s chest and squeezed until she could not breathe.
Military police responded to the residence after Marcum’s wife called 911 the following morning. Marcum was arrested at the scene.
Months later, while training at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana, on Sept. 10, 2025, Marcum reportedly told two fellow soldiers he intended to kill his wife and their unborn child. The soldiers reported the threats to leadership, prompting the chain of command to order Marcum back to Fort Bragg and place him in pretrial confinement.
During a pretrial confinement hearing on Sept. 25, 2025, a reviewing officer determined there was probable cause to continue holding Marcum. After learning of the decision, Marcum fled from his military escorts and ran into a parking lot before being quickly apprehended.
While still agitated, Marcum then slammed his head into a window, causing damage to government property.
Army prosecutors credited soldiers within Marcum’s unit and investigators with helping bring the case forward despite the victim declining to participate in the prosecution.
Following his sentencing, Marcum was placed into confinement while awaiting transfer to a military corrections facility.
Records from the Harnett County Detention Center in Lillington, North Carolina, show Marcum was booked into the facility on March 2, 2026, the same day he was sentenced by the military judge.
As of publication, there is still no confirmed follow-on location for where Marcum will serve the remainder of his confinement once transferred from the county facility.
