A Texas National Guard soldier was arrested in Hidalgo County after McAllen police obtained a warrant alleging continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, according to police and court records.
Juan Salas-Sandoval was taken into custody by the McAllen Police Department on December 16, 2025, following the issuance of an arrest warrant through McAllen Municipal Court. Jail records show he was booked on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, a first-degree felony under Texas law, and released the same day after posting a $50,000 cash or surety bond.
According to a sworn criminal complaint obtained by The Salty Soldier, investigators allege Salas-Sandoval committed two or more acts of sexual abuse against a child younger than 14 over a period spanning from approximately May 2025 through December 2025. The complaint states the alleged abuse occurred on multiple occasions during that timeframe.
The investigation began after a report was made to McAllen police on December 14, 2025, according to the complaint. Police records reference a forensic examination and interview conducted as part of the investigation. Due to the age of the victim, identifying details have not been released publicly.
The complaint further states that Salas-Sandoval was interviewed by detectives after being advised of his Miranda rights and provided statements related to the investigation. Based on the information outlined in the affidavit, investigators sought and obtained a warrant for his arrest on the charge of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, an offense punishable by 25 to 99 years or life in prison if convicted under Texas law.

The case is currently pending with the Hidalgo County District Attorney, according to the Hidalgo County District Clerk’s Office. As of publication, formal charging documents have not yet been filed in district court, and no indictment has been announced.
The Salty Soldier contacted the Texas Military Department to determine whether Salas-Sandoval is currently serving in the Texas National Guard or has exited service. In an initial response, the department acknowledged receipt of the inquiry and stated the matter was under review. In a subsequent written response, the department said it does not comment on ongoing law enforcement matters and directed questions to the McAllen Police Department. The agency did not confirm or deny Salas-Sandoval’s military status.
According to photographs and statements posted on Salas-Sandoval’s social media accounts, he claims to hold the rank of staff sergeant and to have more than 20 years of military service, including deployments to the Middle East dating back to at least 2006. Those claims have not been independently verified through official military records.
Salas-Sandoval is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Salty Soldier will continue to monitor court filings and official responses as the case proceeds.
