Military police NCO arrested on rape charge months after receiving top MP award

A Fort Riley-based U.S. Army Military Police noncommissioned officer was arrested in Geary County, Kansas, on felony rape and misdemeanor sexual battery charges just months after being publicly recognized as one of the Military Police Corps’ top-performing NCOs.

Staff Sgt. Roland Joseph Dore Jr., 35, was arrested shortly after midnight on Dec. 22, 2025, following an alleged sexual assault reported in Junction City, according to Geary County jail records. Dore was booked into the Geary County Detention Facility at 1:17 a.m. and later released the same day after posting a $50,000 surety bond.

Court records show Dore is charged with one felony count of rape under circumstances currently listed as “unknown” and one misdemeanor count of sexual battery. The alleged offenses occurred at approximately 11:16 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2025. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2026, in Geary County District Court.

Dore is believed to be assigned to Fort Riley and serving as a Military Police staff sergeant. His arrest stands in stark contrast to his recent professional recognition within the MP Corps.

In September, Dore was publicly honored at Fort Leonard Wood after being selected as a recipient of the Regimental Command Sergeant Major James W. Frye Noncommissioned Officer of Excellence Award—one of the highest accolades within the Military Police Corps. The award is presented annually during Military Police Regimental Week and recognizes exceptional leadership, duty performance, soldier development, education, and service to the Army and community.

Photographs from the Sept. 25 ceremony show Dore posing alongside senior MP leadership following the presentation of the award.

The Frye NCO of Excellence Award was established in 2022 by the U.S. Army Military Police School and is widely regarded as a career-defining honor within the Corps. Recipients are typically viewed as exemplars of the MP motto: “Assist, Protect, Defend.”

Additional photographs posted on Dore’s social media show him deployed in Afghanistan wearing relaxed Special Forces-style combat attire and a beard consistent with Special Forces operating environments. The images and accompanying posts identify him as a military working dog handler operating alongside Special Forces personnel. The Army has not publicly released records confirming the specific unit assignment reflected in those images.

Dore’s family also has longstanding ties to the Army’s senior enlisted ranks. His father, Roland Dore Sr., is a retired Army sergeant major who last served as the G-1 sergeant major for U.S. Army Forces Command, according to publicly available professional records.

The Salty Soldier has submitted formal requests for comment and additional information to Fort Riley and the Junction City Police Department. Because the arrest occurred immediately ahead of federal holidays, neither agency had responded as of publication.

Neither the Army nor Fort Riley has issued a press release or publicly acknowledged the arrest, nor stated whether Dore has been suspended from duty, placed on administrative leave, or subjected to military disciplinary proceedings.

As with all criminal cases, the charges against Dore are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
