BUNNLEVEL, N.C. — A Fort Bragg soldier already facing serious criminal charges is now accused of secretly recording people in a bathroom, according to court records.
Sgt. Chad Michael Johnson, 36, a combat medical specialist assigned to the 44th Medical Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, was arrested last month on multiple felony counts related to child exploitation.

On July 23, 2025, Johnson was also charged with four felony counts of secret peeping after investigators say he hid a cellphone camera inside a bathroom at a home on English Oak Drive in Bunnlevel. According to warrants, those incidents occurred between June 28 and July 1, 2021.
Court filings obtained by The Salty Soldier show that Johnson was initially released on a $20,000 bond in the peeping case. However, following his arrest on the exploitation charges on August 5, 2025, his bond was set at $200,000 secured.
In his Affidavit of Indigency, he claimed he couldn’t afford to hire his own attorney, listing his income, expenses, and assets.
Court Records Reveal Financial Details and Notable Discrepancies
Documents filed in connection with Sgt. Chad Michael Johnson’s legal proceedings reveal inconsistencies in his reported financial and family information.
When arrested on July 25, 2025, on four felony secret peeping charges, Johnson submitted an Affidavit of Indigency that listed ownership of two vehicles — a 2021 Honda Odyssey minivan and a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer — and declared he has four dependents.
However, following his subsequent arrest on August 5, 2025, related to multiple felony charges of sexual exploitation of minors, Johnson’s updated affidavit filed on August 6 omits any mention of dependents and only references the Honda Odyssey.
The affidavit also confirms ownership of a home on English Oak Drive in Bunnlevel, North Carolina — the same street where the alleged secret peeping incidents took place.

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details on the ongoing investigation.
Service Background
Johnson has served at Fort Bragg since 2014 as a combat medical specialist — a role that provides emergency medical treatment and support in both training and operational environments.
Both the exploitation and secret peeping cases remain active in Harnett County District Court.
