Soldier says Army letting Specialist confronted in online sting roam free despite criminal charge

Newly obtained court records and insider military accounts continue to shed light on the ongoing legal and disciplinary situation surrounding Army Specialist Brandon Alexander Clay Storey, 27, who was arrested following a recorded vigilante sting operation in Colorado late last year.

Storey is currently charged with Obstructing Government Operations, a Class 2 misdemeanor, after he allegedly attempted to retrieve his confiscated phone from a law enforcement vehicle during a November 22, 2024, confrontation. The sting was orchestrated by members of Colorado Ped Patrol (CPP) and CPP Women Against Predators (WAP+1P), who accused Storey of engaging in explicit conversations with an adult decoy posing as an 11-year-old child.

Official Case Updates

Storey’s criminal case remains active in El Paso County under Judge Dulce Denise Peacock, with the next Pre-Trial Conference scheduled for July 29, 2025. Court filings confirm that Storey continues to be represented by public defender Erin Ilene Hudgins, despite a prior court notation that his income exceeds the state’s financial threshold. The court granted the appointment due to unspecified mitigating factors.

A Mandatory Injunctive Protection Order issued on January 22, 2025, bars Storey from contacting any victims or witnesses and remains in effect through early 2026.

Although the arrest stemmed from a sting operation that accused Storey of predatory behavior, no formal charges related to child exploitation, solicitation, or online enticement have been filed, according to publicly available court records.

During the recorded confrontation the ped patrol representative accused him of messaging a decoy wheelchair-bound 11-year-old girl. He allegedly told her he wanted to “play with her [censored]” and asked her of she had “[censored] down there.”

He also allegedly asked the decoy if she “[censored],” a question that appeared to reference [censored].

The list of graphic messages he reportedly sent is extensive and disturbing.

What remains unclear is why no charges related to child exploitation, solicitation, or online enticement have been filed—despite the nature of the alleged conversations.

Barracks Assignment and Soldier Complaints

Court documents list Storey’s residence as 1552 Iron Fighter Drive, consistent with barracks used by units assigned to 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, particularly 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment (1-41 IN) Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC).

A soldier within 2nd Brigade, who requested anonymity due to fear of retaliation, contacted The Salty Soldier with first-hand insights about Storey’s conduct and privileges within the unit.

“He’s in 1-41 HHC. Man this guy is weird as f**k, bro. He had a [censored] in his assault bag at work,” the soldier said.

“I f-ing hate him, bro. He gets to wear civilian clothes and do what he wants on base, while I’ve been late to work a couple times because of mental health issues, and I get forced to wear my uniform every day and everywhere I go. I can’t even leave post. It’s been 165 days, and they wanna take my car away and I can’t see my wife. That dude pisses me off.”

The soldier’s statement reflects broader frustrations often voiced by lower-enlisted troops, who report inconsistent enforcement of policies depending on rank, favoritism, or the nature of ongoing investigations.

The Salty Soldier has not independently confirmed the claims regarding Storey’s behavior or privileges on base but includes this testimony to highlight the morale issues and disparities perceived by fellow soldiers.

Army Remains Silent

Despite repeated inquiries, Fort Carson and U.S. Army Public Affairs have not issued any statement regarding Storey’s current duty status, administrative restrictions, or potential UCMJ actions. His assignment to the barracks and ability to move in civilian clothes suggests he may be on restricted duty or awaiting the outcome of the civilian case before further military adjudication.

Community concerns remain high due to the nature of the sting operation that sparked the arrest. CPP and WAP+1P have claimed they informed Army leadership in real-time during the incident, though there has been no public confirmation of that communication.

Editor’s Note: The Salty Soldier has not independently verified the claims made by Colorado Ped Patrol or CPP Women Against Predators. Additionally, all individuals, including Specialist Storey, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. No criminal charges related to child exploitation or online enticement have been filed as of this report.
